Back in training: Taylor, Vetokele and Andy Marshall featured on Valley Pass

Charlton’s new signing Lyle Taylor is looking forward to pre-season training in a “sadistic kind of way”.

The 28-year-old striker joined the club on Wednesday and you can watch clips from his first two days training at Sparrows Lane on Valley Pass.

Also included in the Behind the Scenes episode is a short catch-up with Igor Vetokele, who returned to pre-season training this week after two years out on loan, and a focus on new goalkeeper coach Andy Marshall passing on his knowledge to Dillon Phillips and Ashley Maynard-Brewer.

Speaking after his first training session on Wednesday, Taylor told Valley Pass: “It was good I enjoyed it. We did a little bit of ball work, a little bit of running. It’s getting us ready for tomorrow and Friday which will both be double sessions and they’ll be tough sessions so it is good to get your legs going and be in with the group. I’m looking forward to tomorrow, which will be hard and then I’m looking forward to getting away next week as well.

“The boys have been brilliant with me today. I’ve had a couple of messages before today asking me if it’s going to happen and if I’m coming. It’s done now and I’m happy. It’s going to be horrible pre-season, pre-season always is but I’m kind of looking forward to it in a sadistic kind of way.”

Marshall was equally upbeat. He said: “It’s great when the sun is shining, it’s maybe a little different in January or February when it’s howling a gale. It’s great from my point of view to be back on the field and it’s great to be working with young Ashley and young Dillon. They are very young, not the most experienced but they are dedicated and wanting to learn, so from my point of view it’s absolutely fantastic so hopefully I can put across my experience and my knowledge to them and give them a little bit of information.”
