Dasilva 'honoured' to receive supporters' recognition

Jay Dasilva revealed his pride at winning the club’s Player of the Year award on Monday evening.

The 20-year-old re-joined the club on loan from Chelsea last summer and has enjoyed an impressive season, leading to supporters voting for the full-back as their Player of the Year.

And despite being delighted to pick up the trophy, he admitted that he was pleasantly surprised.

“I’m definitely surprised!” he said.

“But I’m very delighted and proud to have won it.

“There were a few chats amongst the lads about who might win it, but no one really knew, so it was a big surprise when it was announced.

“It’s always a dream to win Player of the Year at any club you’re at because it’s an accomplishment of all the effort you put in every week. It’s nothing I thought about, to be honest, and I’m still shocked and surprised that I won it, but it is a very proud moment.”

Dasilva has made 42 appearances this term, helping the Addicks to secure their place in the play-offs. And he was quick to praise his teammates for the whole squad’s effort made since the season kicked off in August and is looking forward to the task at hand.

“A few players have had very good seasons. We’ve got a good squad and it’s a talented group of players so I’m honoured,” he explained.

“It’s been a good season and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. We’ve just got two more pushes to make it to Wembley and, hopefully, get promotion to get this club back where it belongs.

“We’ve just got to focus on the job and not get ahead of ourselves. We know what we need to do and we know what the goal is.”
