Curbishley, along with Steve Gritt, gave Bowyer his Charlton debut and the current Addicks Caretaker Manager went on to play 58 games for the club scoring 14 goals before joining Leeds United.

Bowyer said: “I heard that he was proud because obviously I played under him.

“He text me on Friday and said ‘good luck and if you need any advice then give me a shout’.

“It was just nice, I’ve had that from a number of people in the game that I’ve worked or played with.”
