Robinson praises in-form Addicks following third win on the bounce

Karl Robinson was delighted to see his team continue their good run of form as a 3-1 victory over Walsall at The Valley secured a third win on the bounce.

Prior to the success over Oldham Athletic earlier this month, the Addicks had gone seven matches without tasting victory, but nine points from the last three games has ensured that Charlton have regained their place in the top six, with promotion still very much the aim.

“To win three consecutive games at any level is important,” he explained.

“We’ve only conceded one goal in that period of time, but we’re disappointed with that goal. We felt we were so in control in the first half and I think that sometimes played into their hands.

The players have been sensational. I really am proud and everybody at the football club can pat them on the back because they’ve kept their heads down and they’ve stayed positive.”

“I know there was a time where we weren’t looking as good as we did in the second half today,” he continued.

“But you’re always going to go through those little lulls. It lasted a little bit longer than we wanted because we had so many games in that short period of time, but we stuck to our beliefs, we stuck to our way of playing and we came through that.

“When you go through difficult times, you’ve got to stand up and be counted and really emphasise what your true standards are.”

Meanwhile, the Addicks boss confirmed that he hopes to get two signing completed in the coming days as he looks to strengthen his squad in the final third.

“It’s still disappointing we can’t buy anybody,” said Robinson.

“But we hope that we’ve got one over the line today. We’ve spoken to the player and the club and things have been done and agreed and we’ve got the all clear to finish it off.

“Obviously, there’s one more that everybody knew about. We thought we could get that done yesterday, but we’ll have to work hard over the next couple of days to finish one or two bits off on that. So, we’re going to give ourselves a little bit more quality and speed and it’s an area that we’re looking to build on.

“I don’t think we need anything at the back at this period of time – we still have Patrick Bauer and Jason Pearce to come back, so we’ve got a lot of good players still to come back into the squd, so that’s a tremendous testament to the team.”
