NEWS | Academy trio commit future to the club

Olly Groome reports

Charlton are delighted to announce that academy trio Terrique Anderson, Taylor Maloney and Reeco Hackett Fairchild have all signed new deals with the club, while Jo Cummings has joined the club following a successful trial.

Following their two-year scholarships, U18 duo Anderson and Maloney have both penned their first contracts as professionals, while Hackett-Fairchild has signed a new deal which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2018.

Exciting striker Anderson possesses skill and pace in abundance and enjoyed an impressive 2015/16 season as a first-year scholar, playing a vital role towards the U18s’ national title victory.

Although he saw his 2016/17 season hampered by injury, he returned in the latter stages of the campaign and is set to make the step up to Jason Euell’s U23 side next term.

U18 skipper Maloney is a combative midfielder and is adept from set-pieces, as proven by a spectacular late free-kick which earned the young Addicks a 2-1 victory over rivals Crystal Palace in November.

His first season as a scholar yielded 22 league and cup appearances for the U18s, while the 2016/17 campaign has seen him come on in leaps and bounds, stepping up to the U23 squad on a number of occasions.

19-year-old forward Hackett-Fairchild arrived at The Valley following a successful trial last summer having previously been on the books at Dagenham & Redbridge and Dulwich Hamlet.

After signing an initial three-month deal, he was rewarded with a contract until the end of the season and has now signed for a further year following his contribution towards the U23s regional title success this term.

Meanwhile, Euell has swelled his ranks further ahead of next season by adding 18-year-old Cummings, who has signed a deal until 2019.

The central defender has joined from Sheffield United where he was part of the Blades’ U18 side this term, before joining the Addicks on trial last month.

He immediately impressed for the U23s, scoring the winner on his debut at Coventry City, before helping Charlton over the line towards the Professional Development League 2 – South title.
