Having been drawn together in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup - and having required a replay to determine the victor - Monday’s encounter will pit the two sides back together at Stadium MK.
The two recent encounters both ended level after 90 minutes and Boxing Day’s match-up is again likely to be another closely-fought game.
The match presents Karl Robinson - and the newly-appointed member of his backroom staff, Richie Barker – with the opportunity to secure their first victory at their new club, and also gives the Charlton squad the chance to bounce back from Wednesday’s defeat against Millwall.
A win could move Charlton back into the top half of the League One table but MK Dons will also be looking to recover from a defeat last time out, having been beaten 1-0 by Gillingham at Priestfield Stadium last Saturday.

Elsewhere, Declan Rudd, Ricky Holmes, Chris Solly, Lee Novak, Jason Pearce and Ahmed Kashi remain absent with their respective injuries.
For MK Dons, Scott Wootton is out with a knee injury. George Baldock is unlikely to feature due to a hamstring injury but Joe Walsh could return. Darren Potter is suspended.
The Addicks have been victorious on five previous occasions, while there have also been three draws and three wins for MK – one of which came after extra time in the Emirates FA Cup just two weeks ago.
It will be the fourth time that he has taken charge of the Addicks this season. He oversaw our away victory at Walsall in August and both of our encounters against Scunthorpe United.
So far this campaign, he has officiated 20 games, where he has brandished 62 yellow cards and two reds.
Sarginson will be supported by linesmen Dean Treleaven and Kevin Howick and fourth official Andrew Fox.
