Emily van Egmond was proud of her team after the 1-0 loss to Everton on Sunday, with the 'work rate and the togetherness' that they showed today, saying that she thought 'the best is yet to come from this group'.
Van Egmond said: "I think the first 45 minutes we really played our way into the game. We held them at bay, and they didn’t really cause us too many problems and then to come out in the second half and go a man down, I haven’t seen the challenge back. I think credit to the girls; they stuck with it."
The performance was a huge improvement after the loss to Liverpool in the first game of the season and, even though it was a loss, it gives the Addicks a lot to build on.
"We spoke about it [the loss to Liverpool], and we had a really good week in training. It wasn’t good enough from us in the opening round, but I think we came out today and showed what we can be about, and we can take positives from today.
"Obviously gutted that we didn’t get a point or three points from this game, but I think there’s a lot to build on, and now we turn our focus really quickly to the next match as it’s really important."
Speaking about the team spirit, Van Egmond added: "It’s huge for us. Like I said, there's a lot of positives that we can build off from this performance, and I think the best is yet to come from this group.
"But, again, I couldn’t credit the girls any more with the work rate and the togetherness that we showed today."
