Josh Edwards made his long-awaited return to action as Charlton’s U21s shared a 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.
The defender has been sidelined since last September with an ankle injury and got his first 45 minutes under his belt at Hillsborough, claiming an assist as the young Addicks came from behind twice.
A strong Wednesday side, which featured a number of first-team players, took the lead with 13 minutes on the clock when Samuel Duruh finished at the near post after being fed by Joel Akpobi.
Michael Mylona came close to restoring parity shortly after, but fired wide after being teed up by Shia-Lee Burnham.
Charlton did get their equaliser on 19 minutes, however, with a goal that was made by the returning Edwards. He got down the left, before providing a centre for the in-form Ellis McMillan, who calmly slotted home from 12 yards.
With 15 minutes remaining, the Owls regained the lead through Will McPartland, who managed to squeeze his powerful effort inside the near post from a tight angle.
Chris Lock’s side would, once again, respond in speedy fashion with the leveller coming from the spot in the 80th minute.
Ethan Brown was hauled down in the box and the skipper dusted himself off to take the penalty himself. Although his spot-kick was saved by home stopper by Connal Trueman, Brown was quickest to react, putting away the rebound to make it 2-2 and earn his side a point in Yorkshire.
The Addicks’ U21s will return to action when they host Sheffield United at The Valley on Tuesday, September 22nd (1pm).
