Charlton’s U21s were forced to share the spoils on Sunday, after playing out a 2-2 draw with Barnsley at Oakwell in the PDL.
The young Addicks led 2-0 at half-time, but a second half comeback from Barnsley meant that they had to settle for a draw on the road.
Chris Lock's side went 1-0 up on 37 minutes, thanks to a goal from Reuben Reid. Michael Mylona sent a searching free kick towards the far post, that landed at the feet of Ethan Brown. Brown's effort rattled off the post, before it ricocheted out to Reid, who put Charlton infront.
The visitors doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time. Mylona had been at the heart of the action for the Addicks and was rewarded for his efforts with an excellent free-kick. The midfielder stepped up to take the free-kick, and sent it sailing over the Barnsley wall and into the top-right corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
The first-half was one-way traffic from the Charlton after hitting the woodwork on several occasions and netting twice.
Barnsley pulled themselves back into the contest at the beginning of the second half. George Hardy was penalised for a foul, and gave away a penalty on 56 minutes, which the home side converted to make it 2-1.
After sustained pressure from the home side, Barnsley scored from a set piece on 80 minutes to level the scoring.
The young Addicks had to settle for a point in South Yorkshire as the game ended 2-2. Chris Lock's side are back in action on Wednesday, August 26th, as they travel to Greater Manchester to take on Stockport County's U21s in the Premier League Cup.
