Charlton’s U18s continued their winning ways at the weekend, as they beat Sheffield United’s U18s 2-1 in the Professional Development League.
Both sides were in good form coming into the match, but it was the young Addicks who made the better start, as Raynon Richman forced an early save out Oliver Rahnavard.
Richman then opened the scoring after 14 minutes with an excellent strike from outside the box. Kayode Peterkin did brilliantly down the wing before picking out Richman, who made no mistake from the edge of the area, sending a stellar effort beyond Oliver Rahnavard in the Sheffield United goal.
The Blades tried to respond but couldn't create anything meaningful to test Logan Williams, while Rahnavard made another good save to deny Charlton a second goal.
The young Addicks went 2-0 up before half-time. Podgorny was at the heart of the action again for Charlton, as he got the better of the Blades’ defence. He sent a drove a low ball towards the Sheffield United goal, that was turned in by Idris Hashim.
Jason Pearce’s side were 2-0 up at the break.
Beau Cheesewright got the home side back into the game on 58 minutes with a thunderous first-time effort that sailed beyond Williams in goal.
Jason Pearce’s side some defending to do in the latter stages of the match, as Sheffield United looked for an equaliser, but Charlton held firm, bringing all three points back to SE7.
Charlton’s U18s are next in action on Saturday, October 10th, as they travel to Florence Park to take on Colchester United’s U18s (11am BST).
