Charlton's U18s fell to a 3-0 defeat away to Manchester United at Carrington on Tuesday afternoon, in their opening game Premier League Cup.
Jason Pearce's side have been drawn into Group F, with Manchester United's U18s, Chelsea's U18s and Wolves U18s. Each side must play each other twice, with the top two teams progressing to the knock-out stages.
Logan Williams pulled out a fine save on 20 minutes to deny Cameron Mpofu from opening the scoring.
Raynon Richman raced down the right hand side shortly after and forced United's Charlie Hardy into action.
Despite Richman's chance, the home side dominated the opening stages. They were rewarded for their efforts after Jaume Camacho put United in front on 33 minutes with a shot that nestled into the bottom corner.
The young Addicks trailed 1-0 at the break.
United doubled their advantage early into the second half, with a right-footed shot from Yuel Helafu that went beyond Williams in goal.
Charlton’s U18s were 3-0 down with just over 10 minutes remaining after Rafe McCormack tapped home.
At full-time, the Addicks suffered defeat in their opening fixture of the Premier League Cup. The U18s will return to action on Saturday, September 5th, when they travel to face Hull City U18s in the PDL (11am BST).
