Oliver Skipp has settled into life at Sparrows Lane, and is looking forward to his first game at The Valley on Wednesday evening as the Addicks host QPR in the Sky Bet Championship (8pm BST).
“I am really excited to be here, it was a crazy couple of days, I was at the training ground until midnight [on deadline day] and everything has been in fast forward, but I am delighted to be here and get going, especially for my first home game at The Valley is something I am really looking forward to," Skipp said.
The midfielder made his Charlton debut on Saturday, as Nathan Jones' side suffered defeat away at Stoke City.
“I think everyone is disappointed with the result. We started the game quite well, but we didn’t react well to the goals we conceded well enough and everyone is motivated on Wednesday to put that right. We need to be more solid and not concede multiple on the bounce," he explained.
“There is definitely a belief in the changing room within the team, I could feel that coming in."
“I spoke to the manager when I first came in, and the first thing that was clear is his passion for football, how much he loves the game and wants to improve players and that struck a chord with me.”
At the age of 25, Skipp brings a wealth of experience at Championship and Premier League level.
“I think you take things from every manager you have worked under and that is always what I have tried to do. Although I am not old, I have seen a lot of change and a lot of different styles," he said.
“You can see the talent in the group there is here. I really like the togetherness, and for the young players there is such a pathway here and they should be excited. I am always there to give advice to younger players.”
Skipp joined the club in the middle of a busy Championship schedule.
“I think what I love about the Championship is the abundance of games. It is always important to keep a level head and keep balanced.”
The midfielder will experience The Valley as a Charlton player for the first time on Wednesday evening and is looking forward to playing in front of the Addicks faithful.
"I have heard about the fans and the atmosphere they create. Playing there last season I really felt that.
“I think the fans are a credit to the club, I am not sure we deserved it on Saturday but as players we do not take it for granted, it is something we really appreciate. We want to ensure that it is something that doesn’t happen again.”
