Harvey Knibbs says Charlton are determined to respond in what will be a big week ahead after Saturday’s defeat to league-leaders Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.
The midfielder made his first league start of the season as the Addicks’ winless run reached 10 matches.
The midfielder admitted the team are short on confidence, but believes they have positives to build on ahead of the double-header of home games against Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United over the next seven days.
“It was disappointing,” admitted Knibbs.
“We wanted to put our recent form behind us and get a positive result. I thought we did a lot of things well, but we’re a team that lacks a bit of confidence at the moment.
“We’ve got enough to take into our two home games now. If we get the support we had today, that will give us the confidence to put things right.”
With back-to-back home games before the international break, Knibbs recognises the importance of building momentum, starting with Tuesday’s clash against Bolton in SE7.
“We want to get a couple of good results going into the international break, which would give us a better feeling,” he explained.
“We know what back-to-back results can do in this league.
“Although it’s been 10 games without a win, there have been some good performances in there. We’ve just lacked at certain moments, but we want to put that right.”
On a personal note, Knibbs was pleased to be handed his first league start of the campaign at the Riverside, but insisted his focus is on helping the team return to winning ways.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity,” he said.
“I ultimately just want to help the team win, which we haven’t done today. If we can put that right on Tuesday and Saturday, that’s all I want to do.”
Meanwhile, the midfielder also thanked the travelling supporters and urged them to get behind the team at The Valley next week.
“I want to thank them first and foremost for their support today,” he said.
“The journey [to Middlesbrough] is a massive one, and I wish them safe travels home. I know they’ll come out in their numbers on Tuesday and Saturday for two massive games.
“This team is desperate to do well for them, and we want to put things right.”
