Kelman: "I'm back now and I'm just excited"

Charlie Kelman is eager to get back to action for the Addicks for this weekend, as they face Bristol City in the Sky Bet Championship.

The striker returned to Nathan Jones’ side for Charlton’s final outing before the international break, featuring off the bench in their away trip to Cardiff City.

“I feel like the undertaker to be honest! Like it just popped out of nowhere! There wasn’t much to the shoulder injury, I had the surgery and initially I didn’t think I needed to have it. It has been a frustrating start I just wanted to be back playing and getting minutes, hopefully I can start ramping them up now after the international break," he said.

“For the first week you are not allowed to do much, and then after a few weeks you start to feel fine, like you don’t even feel injured. You get frustrated because you want to do things and you can’t.”

“Especially with the start we have had, we look more creative, we have evolved as a team and we are creating chances, and I want to be part it. You seen the lads going to places like West Ham and grinding out results and I just want to be involved. When you are injured, that is the most frustrating thing, you are here at the club all the time and you want to be back out there.”

“I'm back now, and I'm just excited.”

The international break has helped aid a few injured players in their recovery, said Kelman.

“We have had a few in-house games which has allowed me to get some minutes and the same for a lot of the lads. Individually and as a squad, we are in a really good place. We have had a few frustrating results towards the end, and we want to be able to put that right.”

“I feel like the boys needed a bit of a rest because we had so many injuries, they were grafting out games. I feel like that break has allowed everyone to recoup and attack with the same energy we started the season with.”

The Addicks host Bristol City in SE7 on Saturday afternoon, their first game in three weeks after the extended break in the fixture calendar.

"The Valley is a great place to play football. It always feels like in the second half that the ball is going to get sucked into the net every time we put it in the box. I am sure the fans are going to be behind us on Saturday and we are going to need them," Kelman said.

“They are a great ball-playing team that want to dominate possession and we want to be aggressive and take the game to them – especially at The Valley. Hopefully if the fans get behind us we can get a good result.”
