Nathan Jones says his team thrive on the atmosphere created by the Addicks faithful – and they will need that support once again on Saturday, when Charlton host Portsmouth at The Valley (3pm BST).
Jones has called on the Addicks fans to help get him and the team over the line this weekend, after a gruelling fixture schedule.
"We need the fans, it sounds like a broken record really," he said.
"It is a collaboration, we play better when they are vociferous and we are hoping to give them something to get behind in most games. Again, we would like a packed Valley, a vocal Valley and we thrive under that atmosphere."
In terms of team news, Miles Leaburn was forced off with an injury during Wednesday night’s clash with Queens Park Rangers and Jones provided an update.
"He [Leaburn] has trained this week, so it is a decision we will have going into the game tomorrow," the gaffer said.
"But we are in a stronger position now. The few people that have needed a bit more time to recover have done and we have Danny McNamara back from suspension and he gives us a decision to make there. We are in a better position than we were at midnight on Wednesday."
Meanwhile, it was revealed in midweek that Reece Burke had not made the club's registered 25-man squad, which the manager addressed on Friday afternoon.
"Reece has been unfortunate with injuries in recent months," he explained.
"It has curtailed his involvement and availability. What we had to do window to window was bring in a centre-half that we felt we needed to really strengthen that area with the injury to Collins [Sichenje] and Reece, so we brought in Tyler Bindon. We had a blockage at centre-half that we needed to rectify. We will ensure that Reece trains with us and we have three to four months to get him fit and ready and raring to go in January."
Charlton’s perfect start to the league season in August was been recognised with Nathan Jones and Lloyd Jones being nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Manager and Player of the Month, respectively.
But despite no other club in the EFL holding a better record than the Addicks during the month, Jones missed out on the Manager's award.
"We are delighted with the nomination," he said.
"The award has gone out and we can’t affect that decision but we can give them a reason to make one. To take nine points from nine and playing probably the best division in the league away from home and winning, I am very happy with that. In terms of the award, I am delighted with the start that we have had and that is all we can affect."
"Lloyd [Jones] has been outstanding." he added.
"I am not sure Lloyd could have done anymore as a centre-half, to keep a clean sheet, to win all three games. To lead the team to three victories, to get a clean sheet and score two goals. I am not sure a centre half could do much more. Strikers and attackers tend to get these awards. He has been outstanding and long may it continue."
The gaffer explained how his side have lessons to learn from Saturday's opponents Portsmouth, after losing both games to John Mousinho's men last season.
"It is ironic, because we have a lot to learn from the away game and the home game against Portsmouth," he said.
"We hope to demonstrate what we have learnt. I thought we were the better side away from home and it took a turn of events in injury time what we had to learn from and that was a sickening feeling. At home, we were outran and outfought in terms of everything. There was a lot of context and we have to learn."
"It is always a tough test, they are well coached, John [Mousinho] has done a wonderful job there in terms of getting them out of League One, and now they are a good Championship side, they signed well with this summer and finished last season very strongly."
Meanwhile, the boss smiled when discussing his post-match comments which went viral in midweek, and assured that he is very much an animal lover.
“There was nothing pre-meditated about that," he told Rich Cawley for his South London Sport Charlton Athletic Edition Substack.
"First and foremost, I have never volleyed a cat! I am an animal lover, I have a dog myself," he exclaimed.
"Some days, it takes me 10/15 minutes to leave the house because I am trying to get a fly out so it doesn’t die! I am a massive animal lover so I at no point have I ever volleyed a cat. Sometimes you say things in the moment. My wife tells me that I need to be a bit more careful in my interviews and I try!”
“I would take a bullet for my dog! I love my dog, my dog is one of the greatest things on this planet. I hope I don’t have to, but I would!" he joked.
