Nathan Jones is expecting the toughest of tests on Wednesday evening, as his side travel to north London to take on Tottenham Hotspur in the second round of the Carabao Cup (7.45pm BST).
The gaffer was delighted by the day's earlier news, as Tyreece Campbell put pen-to-paper on a new deal with the Addicks, keeping him at the club until 2030.
"I am delighted," he said.
"This window has been significantly important in that we needed to improve in it, alongside that it was really important that we kept the players that were exposed and nearing the end of their contract. We have Lloyd Jones down, and we have TC down and hopefully we will be able to unleash a bit more good news as well."
"He has continually improved and I think that is what was needed. I have backed TC, I have showed him I care about him and that I have a lot of faith in him and he has responded to that. The kid never lets me down, he works hard. He could have a few more outcomes and do certain things at certain times a bit better."
"But of course, that it his learning curve and that is where the rise of improvement is coming from. Right now he is in a really good place and there is plenty more to come."
Charlton come go into Wednesday's cup clash on a high, off the back of an impressive 2-1 win at West Ham United on Saturday.
"We don’t get time to rest," Jones explained.
"Saturday was the second league game of the season and we go into a massive game on Wednesday. We have debriefed today, we know what we did well, we know what we can improve on, there is room for improvement for us, and there is a massive test tomorrow."
Matty Godden and Will Mannion missed out on the previous game through injury.
"Matty Godden and Will Mannion are progressing like everyone else. But the good news is that Charlie Kelman and Josh Edwards have stepped right back and they are now integrated in training with us, so that is a positive. The others are a little bit further away."
Wednesday’s clash comes amid a fixture-packed week for the club, with the game marking the second of three matches in just seven days.
"We have to be very organised and very professional, they are a top top team," Jones said.
"They have a great manager and a brilliant group of players. They already had a Premier League squad and they have spent, what is reaching about, I don’t know, £300 million or something like that. It is a wonderful test, we have to be right near our best and do both sides of the game very well."
"Of course, you want to test yourself against the best managers and you want to test yourself against the best teams. For us, this isn’t our priority, the Championship is our priority, but this is the next game and therefore it is the most important."
"We have to use our squad, the same eleven can’t play at Spurs as well as West Ham and then Preston. You go and think about what is coming after Wednesday as well, it is a big ask for 11 players to do that, so we are going to have to use the squad in all three games."
The Addicks will be backed by a sold out away end at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
"We have wonderful support," he said.
"It is a local ish game there is a big rivalry in London clubs and so on and that is great. It is great we can give them games like that. I know it is only the second round, but we have to win a game to have done that and to give them that opportunity. It is a wonderful day for the club and its a proper test and we have to realise that."
"We are sure that we want to bring people in, it is just a case of when and who, again nothing major to update on. I am sure when any updates happen we will let you all know."
