Nathan Jones was pleased with the level of performance from his side on Wednesday evening, as the Addicks shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw with QPR.
"I think it is a good point, they are a good side, they are very difficult to play against and they are better away from home than they are at home at the moment, so I knew it was going to be a difficult game with how they play," he said.
Tyreece Campbell did have the ball in the net for Charlton, but saw his goal ruled out for a questionable offside, which the gaffer felt aggrieved by.
"I think we defended really well, categorically better than we did on the weekend. The one big decision in the game probably was the one big decision because the penalty claims were slightly soft if I am being realistic. There was one big decision that has gone against us. In these Championship games all we ask is that the big ones are correct and we feel very aggrieved of that goal," he explained.
"I think we could have been braver in possession, we were a bit passive. We did stick to the game plan and we did move the ball and got people in good areas and so on, what we didn’t do, is we didn’t do enough and we gave the ball away too easily. We had opportunities to move the ball forward and we didn’t and took the safe option and that is the thing.
"The work rate and the desire to keep a clean sheet has been outstanding and that is something that hasn’t always been here. It is a London derby these are the perennial Championship games, these are the tough games. We are edging closer all of the time.
"I have no doubt that how we defended our box was stellar and we did it with real quality and desire. That is the group we have got and the injuries we have, we have been stretched. It has been a wonderful effort tonight off the back of a disappointing result at the weekend which shows this is our DNA and not what we saw at Stoke."
Arthur Okonkwo produced a fine save from Paul Smyth in the second half to keep the score level.
"That is the reason he [Okonkwo] is there. We brought him in because that is what we felt we needed before and what we didn’t get previously. We are delighted with Arthur, he had one save to make today and when he was called upon that came from our error, he was able to pull off that save," he praised.
"We want to grow as a team, we have got seven points at home I think, we have taken four away out of nine, we are in a decent position. 11 points in six games is just under promotion form and with the schedule and the injuries as well we have had recently. Arguably, six of the injured players start. We don’t have the competition and have the players available, so we feel it, we are getting absolutely everything out of them."
Miles Leaburn was substituted at half-time, after he felt an injury in his groin.
"He felt a bit in his groin and so we brought him off. He has had to work hard, Micah Mbick is his only recognised striker that is with him so we have to be very careful with Micah coming back from his injury," Jones said.
"That is pressure on Miles and I think he has been excellent I really do, we wanted to lighten his burden a little bit. With the circumstances and the schedule we are desperate to get to the international break and then we can breathe."
The Addicks return to Sky Bet Championship action on Saturday, as they host Portsmouth at The Valley.
"Ironically, Portsmouth have had a free week in terms of stuff. The schedule and what happens is crazy and there is nothing we can do about it. We have been on the end of on Wednesday Saturday back to backs. We ask for one more big effort from the players and then we can breathe a bit before we have the Cardiff game," he said.
