Ivan Mesík has joined the Addicks’ on a four-year-deal from Dutch side Hercales Almelo.
The defender arrives as Nathan Jones' first signing of the summer, with more than 200 professional appearances under his belt and experience across Slovakia, Denmark, Norway, Italy and the Netherlands.
Spartak Trnava
A natural left-sided defender, the Slovakian began his career at Spartak Trnava in his homeland, progressing through the club's youth ranks before making his professional debut in the Fortuna Liga in May 2019 against Nitra.
Mesík totalled 24 appearances for Spartak Trnava throughout his time at the club, scoring twice.
Nordsjælland, Stabæk and Odds Ballklubb
In January 2020, the defender joined Danish Superliga side Nordsjælland on a five-year deal. He was loaned out to Norwegian First-Division side Stabæk at the beginning of the 2021/22 season. Mesík made 13 appearances in all competitions, netting once, before returning to Denmark at the end of the campaign.
At the beginning of the 2022/23 season, Mesík was loaned out for a second time, again in Norway, this time to Odds Ballklubb. After a spell in the development side, the defender broke into the first team at Odds, but his loan was cut short in January 2023.
The Slovakian spent three years on the books at Nordsjælland, and made 38 appearances for the club, before his departure in 2023.
Pescara
His next move took him to Italy, where he joined then-Serie C side Pescara during the January transfer window. Mesík quickly established himself as a key figure in the first team, making 48 appearances between January 2023 and June 2024. His consistent performances earned him a move to the Eredivisie, where he signed a four-year contract with Heracles Almelo.
Heracles Almelo
His time in the Netherlands was the longest of his career so far, having made over 70 appearances in all competitions for the Dutch side. During his two-year spell, he registered three goals and two assists.
International
A Slovakia international, Mesík made his senior debut for his country against Slovenia in the UEFA Nations League in March 2025. Since then, the defender has become a regular member of the national team setup, earning three caps and featuring in two further international matches.
Mesík now links up with Nathan Jones’ squad ahead of pre-season, which kicks off on Friday, July 3rd with a trip to Dartford (7.45pm BST).
