The forward returns to the club where he began his career, having progressed through the academy at Sparrows Lane.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling and a surreal moment to be back. I am lost for words really,” Grant said.
“It all happened so quickly, my agent spoke with the manager, I came in and had a meeting and here we are.”
Grant departed SE7 for the Premier League in January 2019. “So much has changed here, it is nice to see how the club has progressed over the years.”
“I always follow the club, I came here at 12 and worked my way through the ranks here and that season I left I was having a good season and so was the team. It was hard to leave at that point, but for me it was the right decision and here we are."
Grant returns to The Valley with 34 Premier League appearances, 249 Championship appearances, 58 goals and 15 assists under his belt as he links up with Jones’ side for their second successive season in the Championship.
“I think I was a boy when I left and now I am coming back as a man. I have a lot of experience under my belt, I know my body, I know what I can bring so there is a lot of variables. When I was here last I was younger, I was raw, I have matured a lot as a player and so I can’t wait to get back out there," he explained.
“I still have that hunger. I am not the finished article and hopefully it will be an unbelievable journey together again.
The forward left the club having made 98 appearances in all competitions. "To come back and reach 100 appearances for my boyhood club would be amazing. I have had a lot of stick coming back here on the opposite side of the team, but playing for Charlton again will be a great feeling.”
"I have always looked out for Charlton ever since I have left, I have always been so fond of the club and how they treated me when I was here and it is great to be back.”
“It’s nice, it has been a long time, coming back and seeing people that were there when you were here, it’s like you never left. You crack on, you have a joke or two and it is nice to see some familiar faces.”
The academy graduate is looking forward to working under Manager Nathan Jones.
“I think we had a great chat. He knows what I can bring to the team and I am looking forward to working with him. I still want to improve and I still want to be better. We both ultimately want to achieve the same things.”
