Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce that Charlotte Newsham has signed a contract extension with the club.
"I’m really happy," said Newsham. "I've really enjoyed my time here over the past two seasons, so I’m delighted to sign a new contract here."
Newsham has spent the past two seasons at Charlton, becoming a certain starter for the team.
Last season she finally made her senior international debut for the Scotland national team, coming on as a substitute in a 5-0 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying win against Luxembourg, where she also recorded her first assist.
Now, Newsham has put pen to paper on a new contract that will see her stay at the club until 2027. It may be a while before we get to see the 26-year-old back on the field, however, as she suffered a serious knee injury on the final day of the WSL2 season against Birmingham City.
On her recovery, Newsham said: "It’s going really smoothly at the minute, which is good, but I’m still quite early on.
"As things go, so far, it’s gone really well, so hopefully that continues, and I can be back as soon as possible."
Despite not being able to play at the moment, Newsham still has a role in the team: "Last year I was in the leadership group, so that’s something I'm going to try and continue even though I’m not playing.
"I get on with all the girls, so it’s trying to take up a leadership role off the pitch, and hopefully when I’m back on it, it moves onto the pitch as well."
Next season, Charlton will be playing in the Barclays WSL, their first time back in the top flight since 2008. Looking ahead, Newsham has high hopes for the team.
"It’s a new era we’re entering into, so just staying in the league would be a big positive and then hopefully we can build on that going forward."
