Billy Koumetio has joined the Addicks on a four-year-deal from Scottish Premiership side Dundee.
The defender arrives as Nathan Jones’ second signing of the summer, having played in France, Austria, England and Scotland.
We take a closer look at his career, so far.
Lyon and Orleans
Born in Lyon, Koumetio came through the youth ranks at Olympique Lyonnais, initially playing as a winger, before his coaches converted him into a defender to make the most of his imposing height. He then spent a brief spell with US Orléans in 2018 before making the move to England.
Liverpool
Not long after his switch to US Órleans, at the age of 16, Koumetio signed for Merseyside giants, Liverpool. Throughout his time in the Reds’ academy, he served as a ballboy for the club in their 4-0 UEFA Champions League semi-final comeback against Barcelona at Anfield. The Frenchman went on to make his senior debut in December 2020, coming off the bench against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League. At the time, he became Liverpool's youngest-ever player to feature in the competition.
Austria Vienna
After progressing up through the age groups at Liverpool, Koumetio earned the first loan move of his career in June 2022, joining Austrian Bundesliga side Austria Vienna on a season-long deal. The defender played 11 times throughout his spell in the Austrian capital.
Dunkerque and Blackburn Rovers
Upon his return to Liverpool, Koumetio headed out on loan once again, this time returning to his native France to join Ligue 2 side USL Dunkerque in August 2023. He featured nine times in all competitions and was recalled in January 2024. Koumetio later joined Blackburn Rovers on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
Dundee
In August 2024, Koumetio brought his time at Liverpool to an end by joining Scottish Premiership side Dundee on a permanent deal. He went on to make 44 appearances in all competitions, making his debut in a 3-1 victory over Heart of Midlothian that same month. Koumetio scored his first senior goal in July 2025 in an away win over Bonyrigg Rose in the League Cup.
International
Hailing from France, Koumetio has earned international recognition at youth level, representing his country's U18 and U20 sides.
Koumetio now links up with Nathan Jones’ squad ahead of pre-season, which kicks-off on Friday, July 3rd with a trip to Dartford (7.45pm BST).
