The Addicks gained another point on the board on Saturday as they shared a goalless draw with Portsmouth at The Valley.
Danny McNamara and Millenic Alli were brought into the Charlton starting line-up in place of Amari’i Bell and Sonny Carey. Charlie Kelman returned to the bench, while Micah Mbick missed out through injury.
The first chance of the game fell to the Addicks, as Karlan Grant drove forward. He fed the ball through to Miles Leaburn, whose effort was gathered by Daniel Bielica.
Arthur Okonkwo was called into action on 15 minutes, as he got a foot to Devlin’s cross to send the ball out for a corner.
Leaburn had another chance to open the scoring after getting on the end of McNamara’s cross, but he nodded the ball just wide of the post.
Charlton almost broke the deadlock on 20 minutes after a well worked set-piece. McNamara fed the ball to Tyreece Campbell on the wing, who sent a searching cross towards Tyler Bindon. His header was goalbound but was hooked off the line by Conor Shaughnessy.
It was an encouraging start from Charlton, who were the more dominant force throughout the first half.
Bielica did well to deny Grant the opener on 30 minutes. Alli’s clever pass found Grant in space, but the forward’s powerful effort was well saved by the Portsmouth stopper.
Moments later, Alli had a golden chance to put the Addicks a goal to the good. Campbell’s great cross found Alli, but the ball was volleyed over by the winger.
Alli had another glorious opportunity to put Charlton ahead on the stroke of half-time, but saw his shot smothered by Bielica.
Abu Kamara almost opened the scoring for Portsmouth from the restart for the second period. The wideman danced his way towards the box and let fly, but Okonkwo did brilliantly to prevent his shot from nestling into the bottom corner.
Nathan Jones made his only change of the game on 76 minutes, introducing Kelman for his first appearance of the season in place of Alli.
On 78 minutes, Adrian Segečić found himself in some space on the edge of the area, but his effort was straight at Okonkwo.
Portsmouth substitute Ryan Kauvuma-McQueen then sent a searching cross into the box that narrowly evaded the outstretched Colby Bishop.
The Addicks had a corner late on that was well worked out to Conor Coventry on the edge of the area, but his shot was fired just over the bar.
On 87 minutes, Grant saw an effort well blocked by Regan Poole to ensure that the spoils were shared at The Valley.
