The highly-rated midfielder became Lee Bowyer’s eighth signing of the summer when he arrived on a season-long loan from Chelsea on the eve of the opening-day trip to Blackburn Rovers.
Named as Chelsea’s 2019 Academy Player of The Year, the 19-year-old has been with the Blues since the age of six and has won the FA Youth Cup in back-to-back years in 2017 and 2018 and was also part of the side which helped England win the U17 World Cup in India in 2017, beating Spain 5-2 in front of a crowd of over 66,000.
Gallagher started life as a wide midfielder but has moved more centrally in recent years. The youngster is highly rated at Chelsea, making four appearances in the Checkatrade Trophy last season and he earned a place on the bench for their Europe League final win against Arsenal.
The Epsom-born midfielder will be hoping to emulate the success of Jay Dasilva, the last Chelsea loanee at the club. In two loan spells Dasilva became a fan favourite and went on to win Player of the Year in a very impressive 2017/18 season at The Valley.
