Ricky Holmes became Charlton’s first signing of the 2016 summer transfer window when he joined us from Northampton Town for an undisclosed fee, signing a two-year contract.

Holmes, 29, was named in League Two’s PFA Team of the Year in 2015/16 following an excellent campaign in which he scored 11 goals in 32 matches to help Northampton to win the League Two title.

Rochford-raised Holmes began his senior career at Chelmsford City, where he netted an impressive 49 goals in 154 league appearances.

That saw him called up to the England C squad in 2008 and also attracted the interest of Barnet , who brought him to Underhill in 2010. Following three seasons in North London, he signed for Portsmouth.

While on the South Coast, Holmes made over 50 appearances for Pompey, scoring twice. He joined Northampton on loan in January 2015 and later that month made a permanent move to the Cobblers.

Holmes excelled at Sixfields and played a vital role in their title-winning campaign of last season. Nine of his goals from 2015/16 came in league action, with his strike against Leyton Orient being named as their Goal of the Season.

As well as being named in League Two’s Team of the Year, he was also shortlisted for the division’s Player of the Year accolade.
