None of the club’s 2015/16 summer arrivals shone quite as brightly as Patrick Bauer during an otherwise disappointing season in SE7.

The big German defender impressed at the back, before suffering a season-ending injury at Burnley in December and his absence made an already-difficult challenge all the more daunting as the Addicks plummeted towards relegation.

He grabbed his first goal for the club in the 1-1 draw with Rotherham United last September and his aerial advantage has proven him to be a real weapon in both boxes for Charlton.

Red cards in away games against Reading & Brighton & Hove Albion limited his appearances last season to 21 before his groin problem hit, but fans were pleased to see the centre-back make a return off the bench in the 2-1 victory at Walsall in the early stages of 2016/17 and Bauer will be hoping to slip back into the back four to help his side in the new season’s promotion push.

The 23-year old began his career with Stuttgart in his native Germany and represented his country at U17, U18 and U21 level before joining CS Maritimo in the Portuguese top flight in the summer of 2013. A solid performer for the Green-and-Reds, he reached the final of the Portuguese League Cup, but were beaten 2-1 by giants Benfica.
