Experienced striker Lee Novak became our second signing of summer 2016 when he joined the club on a free transfer on Friday, June 17th

The 27-year-old spent 2015/16 on loan at Chesterfield from Birmingham City, where he netted an impressive 15 goals in 38 games, put pen to paper on a three-year contract.

Beginning his youth career with Wallsend Boys Club, Novak made the move to Gretna in Scotland before returning to his hometown to sign for Newcastle Blue Star in 2007.

A hugely-productive year saw him hit 29 goals in 47 games, attracting the interest of Gateshead, who snapped him up in 2008.

Another prolific season followed. He found the net 16 times in 18 games - which included an incredible three-minute hat-trick against Hyde United - which earned him his chance in the Football League.

Novak would go on to spend four years at Huddersfield Town, winning promotion from League One in 2012 and finding the net 42 times in 172 games for the Terriers.

He joined Birmingham City in 2013 on a three-year deal and, last season, enjoyed a successful spell on loan spell at Chesterfield.

While with the Spireites, the tireless worker’s 15-goal haul included their goal of the season -  a stunning strike against Gillingham - and netted a hat-trick in the 7-1 thrashing of Shrewsbury Town at the Proact Stadium.
