The captain’s love affair with Charlton is still going strong into his sixth year with the club.
Despite the disappointment of relegation, the 2015/16 season proved to be a landmark campaign for Jackson, reaching the 200-appearance milestone in the 1-1 draw at Derby County last August, before scoring his 50th goal for the club in the 1-0 victory over Birmingham City at St Andrews in November.
Injuries saw the skipper dip in and out of the side throughout the season, yet the inspirational midfielder still managed to rack up 30 appearances, bagging himself three goals.
Jackson’s status as a firm fans’ favourite was cemented during the Addicks’ last campaign in the third tier when he led the side to the League One title under Chris Powell and he will be aiming to recreate that feat in 2016/17 to lead his side back to the Championship at the first time of asking.
No other current Charlton player has played for the club more than the former England youth international, with Jackson having earned an impressive 234 appearances in total, including his initial four-game loan spell for the club when he was first brought to The Valley by Phil Parkinson in 2010.
The 34-year-old started the 2016/17 season brightly, netting back-to-back goals in the 1-1 draw with Northampton Town at The Valley, before scoring in the 3-0 success over Shrewsbury Town in SE7.
