21-year-old stopper Dillon Phillips enjoyed his first taste of regular senior football in 2015/16 when he embarked on a season-long loan with Cheltenham Town. His time with the Robins proved hugely successful as he helped Gary Johnson’s side to the National League title to make an immediate return to the EFL.

Although his season was curtailed in early March through injury, Phillips became a firm fans’ favourite at Whaddon Road, keeping 16 clean sheets in 36 league games and returned to celebrate promotion and lift the trophy in front of the Cheltenham faithful at the end of April.

A fine shot-stopper and good distributor of the ball, Phillips has impressed throughout the academy ranks at The Valley and has had to remain patient for his chance between the sticks having made a number of appearances on the senior substitutes’ bench.

After the departure of both Nick Pope and Stephen Henderson this summer, he was thrust up the pecking order and was finally handed his first-team debut for the visit of Southampton U23s in the Checkatrade Trophy in August, keeping a clean sheet and saving a penalty in the subsequent penalty shoot-out.
