Miguel Llera

Charlton's first signing of the summer is breaking new ground after switching from Milton Keynes Dons on a free transfer.

Giant defender Llera will be the first Spanish player to play for the Addicks first team, and has already targeted a place in the Championship at the end of the season.

Llera joined the Dons on transfer-deadline day in September 2008, and went on to make 37 appearances in his first season in England, scoring twice.

After helping his side contest an automatic promotion place for much of the League One season, Llera had to be content with a play-off place come May, and although he scored a crucial penalty in a semi-final shoot-out against Scunthorpe United, the Iron prevailed to reach Wembley.

The six-foot-four centre-back arrived in London seeking a new challenge, and the left-footer turned 30 ahead of the big kick-off.

Born in Castilleja de la Cuesta, in Seville, Llera's professional career began with Recreativo B in 1998. Following a loan spell at CD San Fernando, the defender moved to Alicante in 2001/02, and played 101 league games in the Valencian province in four years.

Llera moved to Gimnastic in 2005 and helped the Tarragona side reach La Liga in his first season at the club. He played 12 times in the Spanish top flight the following season, netting twice, before dropping back down to the second tier to join Hercules, helping the Alicante-based side to sixth in 2007/08 before moving to England.
