Deon Burton

A hat-trick scorer on the final day of 2008/09, experienced striker Burton will be looking to be first choice up front this season.

The forward grabbed the first senior Charlton treble for five and a half years against Norwich City, showing predatory instincts inside the box in a scintillating 26-minute spell either side of the interval.

That took his tally to five goals in 23 outings following his arrival from Sheffield Wednesday late last year, initially on loan until the January transfer window opened.

A third quickfire signing by Phil Parkinson in November, Burton - who played against Charlton at The Valley for the Owls earlier in the campaign - made his debut in the new manager's first home match, against Southampton.

His first goal came from the penalty spot against Coventry City, and his impressive touch and ability to bring others into play offered the Addicks frontline a different dimension.

The Valley represents an 11th port of call for the much-travelled star, who passed 400 career league matches in 2008/09. Indeed, this is his 16th season as a professional after coming through the ranks at Portsmouth, and more than half of his appearances came for Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday.

The 60-cap Jamaica international - who was named his country's Sportsman of the Year in 1997 for his efforts in helping the Reggae Boyz qualify for the 1998 World Cup - has had loan spells at Cardiff City, Stoke City, Barnsley, Walsall and Swindon Town, plus stints at Brentford and Rotherham United.
