Valley Gold

Posted on: Wed 16 Nov 2011

Valley Gold enables fans to support the club in unearthing the talents of tomorrow - as well as giving them the chance to scoop up to £15,000 in regular cash prizes.

The matchday draw scheme was originally set up in 1989 to help finance the return to The Valley, which was achieved in December 1992. Since the mid-1990s, the club's youth set-up has benefited from the money it has raised, and the scheme celebrated its 20th anniversary in August 2009.

The committee of Charlton Club, the organisation that runs Valley Gold and the Jackpot Tickets matchday draw, was formally reconstituted in January 2003.

Membership subsequently climbed to more than 2,000 members, the largest number the scheme has ever had.

For an annual subscription of £120 - which can be paid monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly and by standing order, cheque or cash - members are entered into cash draws at every home league match.

The usual first prize is £750, with a second prize of £350 and a third of £150. There are two further draws during the summer with a single £500 prize apiece.

From the start of the 2008/09 campaign, the committee introduced daily draws which saw one member win £10 every weekday.

And there is also a special 12 Days of Christmas promotion, which sees 11 members given £1,000 apiece in the run-up to the Christmas grand draw, for which the top prize is £5,000.

All the winning names are published here. Fans can also find out the winners by following Valley Gold on its Twitter service.

Other benefits to members

There is a whole range of benefits for members, in addition to being entered in the prize draw.

Members currently receive £15 off the cost of their season ticket (please note that your Valley Gold membership number MUST be entered on your season-ticket application form in order to qualify), and gain greater ticket priority to away games and those matches that are in high demand, such as cup games or play-off fixtures.

Members receive a 10 per cent discount on official merchandise bought from the Valley Superstore on production of their Valley Gold membership card, and there are several events during the season when even greater reductions are available.

In addition, members receive an occasional exclusive newsletter, plus invitations to special Valley Gold events, such as question-and-answer or signing sessions with first-team players. This is also published online.

Supporting the club

It is well known that Charlton have one of the best youth academies in the country, nurturing the stars of the future.

Based at the club's training ground in Sparrows Lane, the academy has benefited considerably from subscriptions made to Valley Gold over the years.

The youth system has brought numerous players through its ranks and into the first team - including current stars Chris Solly and Scott Wagstaff. Former academy graduates include the likes of England internationals Scott Parker and Paul Konchesky, plus defender Richard Rufus and goalkeeper Rob Elliot.
