Euell makes Wimbledon move

Posted on: Wed 11 Jan 2012

Gary Haines reports

Jason Euell has switched one home for another by joining AFC Wimbledon on loan until Valentine's Day, the club announced on Tuesday.

The forward, who returned to The Valley this summer, will join Terry Brown's side for a month - and goes straight into the squad for Saturday's League Two clash at Port Vale.

Euell, who joined Charlton from Wimbledon for a then club record transfer fee of £4.75m in 2001 - long before the club's relocation to Milton Keynes - has made 15 appearances for the Addicks this term.

After training with the club in the summer, Euell made his return to Addicks action as a late substitute in the pre-season friendly at Woking on July 23rd last year.

He then signed a one-year contract to return to the club with which he initially spent five seasons, and his senior return to action came when he emerged from the bench at Notts County in the second game of the League One season.

Euell's first start on his return came in the Carling Cup clash against Reading at The Valley, and he marked the occasion with the second goal in the 2-0 win.

He has made 10 substitute outings in the league this season, most recently in the November 5th 5-2 rout of Preston North End, and his last action came as a scoring substitute in the FA Cup win against Carlisle United on December 5th.

The striker bundled in the settling second against the Cumbrians, a win that helped set up a third-round tie at Fulham, where Euell was an unused substitute on Saturday.

In total, he has netted 39 times in 170 appearances for the club.

Last season the former Jamaica international played three Premier League games for Blackpool before embarking on a loan spell at Championship side Doncaster Rovers.

And he joined Middlesbrough from Charlton in August 2006, before departing for Southampton a year later.

In July 2009, he signed for Blackpool, helping the Seasiders win promotion to the Premier League.

It's Wimbledon where it all began for Euell, however, with the new incarnation of the club formed in 2002, a year after he left for The Valley.

Indeed, he netted on his very first outing for the Dons on October 28th, 1995 in a 2-1 loss against Southampton.

He went on to score 47 times in 181 league and cup outings for the then-South London club, and his time at Kingsmeadow could see him in action seven times.

Dons travel to Gillingham on January 21st, and Euell's first home game is against Macclesfield Town three days later.

Wimbledon host Aldershot Town on January 28th and travel to Cheltenham a week later before former Addicks boss Phil Parkinson brings Bradford City south on Saturday, February 11th.

The last match of his loan sees a Valentine's date at Sixfields, home of struggling Northampton Town.
