Vuvuzelas blown out

Charlton have decided that vuvuzelas will not be allowed into The Valley this season

The Addicks announced the decision following a number of enquiries from supporters concerned that the loud trumpets, which received widespread attention during the World Cup in South Africa over the summer, would be heard in SE7 in 2010/11.

Charlton operations director Mick Everett said: "The club has received a large amount of correspondence from fans on the subject of vuvuzelas since the World Cup ended, and the overwhelming majority were firmly against them being allowed into the stadium.

"It's clear they would be a significant annoyance to many supporters, and the club wishes to ensure all fans are allowed to enjoy the game at all times.

"Therefore, in the interests of the safety and enjoyment of our supporters, the club has decided that vuvuzelas will not be allowed into The Valley."

A number of Premier League and Football League clubs have already banned vuvuzelas from their stadia, including Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Birmingham City, Everton, Fulham and West Ham United.

Meanwhile, the club is appealing for fans who have a few hours to spare next week to help Charlton and benefit their fellow supporters at the same time.

The club is offering a free ticket for one of the opening home games or a matchday meal in Legends to anyone who volunteers to help clean the stadium seats in the run-up to the clash with AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, August 7th. Get more details here.
