Evil weed killer

Wednesday is National No Smoking Day, and Addicks fans keen to 'Kick the Habit' were given all the help they needed at Charlton's clash with Stockport County last weekend.

'Big Cig' is stubbed out by Charlton mascots Harvey the Dog and Floyd the Cat

Whether supporters were up for the challenge of a smokefree week or ready to quit for good, they got all the support they needed in SE7 thanks to the Greenwich Stop Smoking Service.

In the third annual No Smoking Day event at The Valley, information and advice on stubbing out the evil weed, plus free health MOTs and check-ups, were made available to anyone with a matchday ticket from a mobile clinic in the west-stand car park. A free size 5 football was handed to all customers who underwent a health MOT.

'Big Cig' was on hand throughout the day and took to the pitch prior to kick-off to give out stickers, baseball caps and pens, before being stubbed out by Charlton mascots Harvey the Dog and Floyd the Cat. It's the only time you'll see a cigarette in The Valley, which is a smokefree venue.

A number of fans also signed up to attend a seven-week stop smoking group, which starts next month on Thursday, April 22nd.

For further information and advice on stubbing it out, text the word QUIT to 07790 909 999. Alternatively, the Greenwich Stop Smoking Service can be contacted free on 0800 587 5833 or stopsmoking@greenwichpct.nhs.uk
