Further rest for Youga

Charlton defender Kelly Youga has been told to rest for a further two weeks before his knee injury is again assessed.

Kelly Youga initially suffered the problem in the early stages of Charlton's 4-2 win over Bristol Rovers

The left-back initially suffered the problem in the early stages of Charlton's 4-2 win over Bristol Rovers at The Valley on Tuesday, November 24th.

He has been sidelined ever since and Charlton's head physiotherapist Steve Allen revealed that Youga will remain on the treatment table for another fortnight before the star can think about a possible return to training.

Allen told the official website: "Kelly hyper-extended his left knee against Bristol Rovers. Following an MRI scan and consultancy with Andy Williams, an orthopaedic surgeon, it was shown that Kelly had also sprained his posterior cruciate ligament.

"That seems to have now healed sufficiently but three further MRI scans, a CT scan and a bone scan have shown a small area of bone bruising which is causing him discomfort.

"Following another consultation, he has been advised to rest completely for two weeks. We'll then review his activity with a plan of hopefully returning to training if all is well."

Youga, snapped up on a free transfer from French Championnat winners Olympique Lyonnais four years ago by then-Addicks boss Alan Curbishley, is the only Charlton player currently out with injury.

Allen added: "So far this season - touch wood - we've been very fortunate with injuries. There have been a few niggles here and there but in terms of long-term injuries, we've been lucky. Long may it continue until the end of the campaign.

"I was really pleased with Dean Sinclair's return as he had quite a serious knee injury. He's now loan at Grimsby Town which is a big plus for Deano."

Elsewhere, it had been feared the back injury sustained by Rob Elliot against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday would keep the goalkeeper out for a couple of weeks.

The shot-stopper was replaced by Darren Randolph midway through the first half of the game but, despite those initial concerns, Elliot was able to start against Walsall on Tuesday night.

"After a couple of days of treatment he was fine," stated Allen.
