Be there to see season's second half

Still unbeaten at The Valley since March, Charlton recently smashed an 81-year record - and as the Addicks continued their successful start to the season by drawing against Millwall on Saturday, half-season tickets to watch the second half of the 2009/10 campaign remain available.

No Addicks manager has ever lost fewer league games than Phil Parkinson in the opening 22 games of a campaign, according to research carried out by club historian Colin Cameron.

And, prior to the fixture against the Lions, Charlton also equalled another landmark set 28 years ago, with no Addicks team having recorded more points at that stage of the season.

"Until December 12th this year, the record for the fewest defeats after 21 matches was the three losses established under Alex Macfarlane in January 1928,” explained Colin.

"And the record still stands after the 22nd match, Saturday's 4-4 draw with Millwall, because Macfarlane's squad lost 4-3 at Newport County in their next match."

Despite going two goals behind in the first half of Saturday's South-East London derby against the Lions, the Addicks fought back to claim a valuable point - and should have claimed victory only to be denied two more points by Danny Schofield's last-minute equaliser.

The draw followed a 2-1 win against Stockport County at Edgeley Park, when Parkinson's men matched the club's record points tally after 21 games.

"When Mike Bailey's squad won immediate promotion back to the Second Division in 1980/81, the equivalent number of points gained after 21 matches - awarding three points per win and one for a draw - was a record 45, the same number as we had at the same stage this season," said Cameron.

"Bailey's record after 21 matches was won 14 - a record - drawn three and lost four, compared with Parkinson's record of won 13, drawn six and lost two."

Including last season, Charlton have lost only three of their past 30 league matches, and are unbeaten in their last 17 games at The Valley, including the Johnstone's Paint Trophy victory against Barnet in October.

And there is still time for fans to secure their place at The Valley for the second half of the campaign, with half-season tickets available from £160 (just £13.33 a game) for adults.

Half-season tickets cover a dozen games, including the visits of Gillingham and Leeds United, and start from the Boxing Day clash with Swindon Town.

U18s pay £40 and U11s £30, which is £3.33 or £2.50 per game, making half-season tickets the ideal Christmas gift.
