Deon on draw

Deon Burton took his goal tally for the season to 12 on Saturday, but admitted the 4-4 draw with Millwall felt more like a defeat

After the Lions had raced into a 2-0 lead, Burton converted two penalties, the second of which saw Nadjim Abdou sent off for a professional foul, to get the Addicks back on level terms.

Charlton went on to lead twice through Nicky Bailey and a Steve Morison own goal, but were pegged back each time by Dave Martin and Danny Schofield.

Speaking afterwards, Burton said: "The boys are a bit down. To be up and with them having 10 men but not coming away with three points does feel a bit like a defeat. But we got a point and we're still undefeated at home, so we'll move onto the next game. To give Millwall fair dues, they're a good team and they kept battling away with 10 men and were working hard to make it difficult for us."

The spot-kick brace for Burton, who was denied a hat-trick when Lions goalkeeper David Forde somehow clawed away an effort from the Jamaica international, was the first time the striker had notched two penalties in a match.

"The referee did drag the penalties out a bit," he said. "Now and then you get one who wants to make sure everybody is in the right position and the keeper is on his line. But I don't think I've had two penalties in one game before and I'm disappointed not to have scored a hat-trick."

Burton's highest scoring total for a season is the 17 he bagged in 2005/06, and he must now be looking to overtake that before the current campaign is out.

Fans can watch him try to close in on his personal record when Charlton host Swindon Town on Boxing Day (1pm), tickets for which are currently on general sale, priced £17, £22 and £25 adults, £17 over 60s and U21s, and £5 U18s in all areas.

Places are available in person from the Valley commercial centre, by calling the ticket hotline on 0871 226 1905, and online.
