Duo head out on loan; Ikeme departs

There was a hive of activity on Thursday's loan deadline day, with Dean Sinclair and Alex Stavrinou joining Barnet and Ebbsfleet United for a month respectively and Carl Ikeme seeing his temporary spell in SE7 come to an end.

Dean Sinclair has joined Barnet on loan

Shortly after making his comeback from a long-term knee injury as a second-half substitute as Charlton reserves took on Leyton Orient in a behind-closed-doors friendly, Sinclair made the switch back to Barnet, the club he left to move to SE7.

The midfielder, who suffered the problem during a loan spell at Grimsby Town last season, will initially spend a month with the Bees, while young Stavrinou will move to Charlton's near-neighbours Ebbsfleet for the same period.

Goalkeeper Ikeme, meanwhile, has returned to Wolverhampton Wanderers after his emergency loan with the Addicks expired, and has since joined Sheffield United for a month.

Now in his third season at the club, 24-year-old Sinclair was snapped up by Charlton from Barnet for a £125,000 developmental fee in summer 2007, but has managed just 132 minutes of Addicks action since.

He did score a goal in that time - at Luton Town in the Carling Cup in September 2007 - but that loss after extra-time at Kenilworth Road proved his last action in the first team.

St Albans-born Sinclair has twice spent loan stints at Cheltenham Town over the past two seasons, featuring 17 times in all, and he also tasted match action for Grimsby at the start of the year, netting once in nine outings before the cruciate knee injury curtailed his time at Blundell Park.

A former Norwich City youngster, Sinclair netted regularly across three seasons at Barnet, scoring 23 goals in 139 games and featuring alongside current Addicks captain Nicky Bailey in the middle of the park.

Barnet - currently 11th in League Two - could include Sinclair in their ranks when they take on Accrington Stanley away in the second round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

On the capture of Sinclair, Bees boss Ian Hendon said: "I tried to re-sign Dean in the summer but his injury problems prevented that. But Charlton have done us a big favour by letting us have him now."

Stavrinou will also hope to be in action this weekend when Blue Square Premier strugglers Ebbsfleet play Mansfield Town at Stonebridge Road.

The talented 18-year-old midfielder, who penned professional terms with the Addicks last summer, has made two first-team appearances for Charlton this season - the Carling Cup first-round loss at Hereford United and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy victory over Barnet.

But he has found further chances hard to come by, and Addicks boss Phil Parkinson said last week: "I haven't had any calls about my players, but as you get closer to that deadline there's a likelihood that the phone might ring.

"There's not that many players we'd be willing to send out on loan but Alex Stavrinou is one. He's a good young player and his pathway has been blocked slightly because we've got so many good midfielders here."

Stavrinou will be no stranger to Stonebridge Road, having played there regularly for Charlton's reserves last season.

A Cyprus youth international, Stavrinou was converted from a centre-back to a central midfielder by U16s coach Steve Avory. He has since flourished in that role and provides a combative presence in the middle of the park.

Finally, Ikeme has departed SE7 after his loan spell came to an end and has since been signed on a temporary basis by Kevin Blackwell's Blades.

The 23-year-old was snapped up by the Addicks following an injury to Rob Elliot, making his debut in a 3-1 defeat to Carlisle United at Brunton Park.

The foot-foot-three custodian went on to make a further four starts for Charlton, with his last coming in Tuesday night's 4-2 win over Bristol Rovers at The Valley.

Ikeme will be immediately available for the Blades' Championship trip to Bristol City on Saturday.

The exits of Stavrinou and Sinclair mean Charlton now have a total of seven players out on loan, with Stuart Fleetwood (Exeter City), Chris Dickson (Bristol Rovers), Yassin Moutaouakil (Motherwell), Jack Clark (Bognor Regis Town) and Yado Mambo (Dover Athletic) all currently plying their trade away from The Valley.
