Duo on target for U18s
Second-year scholars Carl Jenkinson and Lewis Perkins were on target as Charlton defeated West Ham United 2-1 on Saturday.
The duo helped the Addicks build on their midweek FA Youth Cup success against Woking with a fine derby victory at Sparrows Lane.
And they ended the Hammers' six-match unbeaten run in the process, coming from behind to record their fourth victory in the last five games.
Development manager Damian Matthew tinkered with the side that had beaten the Cards at The Valley and with Tamer Tuna travelling with the first team to Yeovil Town, there was a start up front alongside Perkins for Tosan Popo.
Yado Mambo's work experience spell at Dartford meant Jordan Anderson dropped back to centre-back, where he partnered skipper Jenkinson.
England U16 starlet Jordan Cousins switched to right-back with Connor Morris coming in on the left of defence.
Joe Carter operated in front of Morris in midfield as Freddie Warren partnered Harry Pell in the middle of the park, and Liam Bellamy switched to his preferred right-wing slot.
Against sprightly opposition, Jack Binks made a couple of good saves in the first half to keep the Hammers at bay and Charlton showed good resolution to compete with their cross town rivals.
The introduction of U16 striker Ade Azeez perked up the hosts in the second period, and skipper Jenkinson opened the scoring for the hosts midway through the half, firing home a free-kick.
Robert Carr levelled for the Hammers and Jack Werndly twice went close for the visitors before Charlton wrapped up the points 10 minutes from time.
Perkins was the man on target, grabbing his eighth goal of the season to complete the win.
