Dicko makes Black Stars bow

Chris Dickson made his international debut for Ghana against Tanzania on Wednesday night - and watched the Black Stars snatch a draw in amazing fashion.

Chris Dickson made his international debut for Ghana against Tanzania on Wednesday night

The striker played the full 90 minutes in the newly-built stadium in Dar es Salaam and joined in the celebrations near the end when goalkeeper Richard Kingson salvaged a 1-1 draw.

The ex-Birmingham City custodian came up for a free-kick around six minutes from time and got on the end of a centre from brother Laryea to head home and ultimately earn a share of the spoils.

And while all the attention was on the keeper, a free agent after leaving St Andrews this summer, for Dickson it marked another landmark moment in a busy week.

The hitman had put pen on a contract extension until 2010 earlier in the week and has already featured for the first team twice off the bench in the opening three matches of the season.

Dickson already knows about dramatic late goals, having opened his Addicks account in an FA Cup third-round replay at West Bromwich Albion in January.

The Plumstead-born ace is also fronting Charlton's 'Street Violence Ruins Lives' campaign and will address the Valley faithful at half-time in Saturday's Championship clash with Reading.

The 23-year-old will be back from Africa to compete for a place in the squad for the Royals clash.

Dickson qualifies for the Black Stars via his Ghanaian father and was picked in the initial squad for the African Cup of Nations earlier this year.

He was ultimately whittled out of the 23-strong party for the competition but the absence of several star names for new coach Milovan Rajevac's squad opened the door for him to take his international bow.

The Serbian had only just taken charge of the national team in the build-up to the game and it was the Taifa Stars of Tanzania who went ahead in the 34th minute through Henry Joseph.

But the Kingson brothers combined near the end to ensure Dickson, who was playing for non-league Dulwich Hamlet less than a year and a half ago, did not taste debut defeat.
