Charlton 5 Lincoln 0

Charlton defeated committed Gibraltar side Lincoln XI 5-0 as Alan Pardew's men continued their preparations for the 2008/09 campaign out in Spain on Thursday night.

Jerome Thomas scored twice in the first half as Charlton took control in physically demanding conditions in Jerez, and Stuart Fleetwood also claimed his first goal in Addicks colours since his summer recruitment.

The Addicks made eight changes at the break, and the best two goals arrived in the second period through Andy Gray and Scott Wagstaff.

Thomas opened the scoring, somewhat fortunately, after 21 minutes when the Lincoln goalkeeper misjudged his dangerous cross, and the winger claimed his second from the penalty spot eight minutes later.

Andy Gray and Jonjo Shelvey both featured in the second half against Lincoln on Thursday nightLloyd Sam, playing on the other flank, twisted and turned past two defenders only to be felled inside the box, and Thomas made no mistake with the ensuing spot-kick.

Charlton increased their advantage before half-time through Fleetwood, who killed a ball 25 yards from goal and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the far corner.

The substantial changes at the break - Jonathan Fortune, Grant Basey and Nicky Weaver the only three players to play the entire 90 minutes - might have disrupted Charlton's rhythm, but the tourists continued to attack their hosts.

And there were pleasing signs after 72 minutes when Luke Varney and Gray, the duo having combined so effectively against Coventry City on the final day of last season, conjured the best goal of the game.

Basey started the move and after Varney controlled the ball on his chest, he found his strike partner, who took one touch and lobbed the ball over the stranded goalkeeper into the net.

The scoring was concluded by Wagstaff, following a fine move involving central midfield duo Jonjo Shelvey and Therry Racon, and the wideman cut inside before slotting the ball into the net.

Charlton: Weaver, Moutaouoakil (Semedo 46), Fortune, Youga (Hudson 46), Basey; J Thomas (Yussuff 46), Wright (Racon 46), Sinclair (Shelvey 46), Sam (Wagstaff 46), Todorov (Varney 46), Fleetwood (Gray 46).

Goals: J Thomas 9, 21, Fleetwood 37, Gray 72, Wagstaff 80.
