Boss aims for hat-trick of wins

Sitting second in the Premiership and safely into the hat for the fourth round of the Carling Cup, Alan Curbishley and Charlton have plenty to smile about at the moment.

And the Addicks boss admitted after Wednesday's stunning penalty shoot-out upset win at Chelsea that his attentions had already switched back to the league.

Charlton entertain Bolton Wanderers at The Valley on Saturday and Curbishley is keen to conclude an intense eight days by sending Sam Allardyce's side trotting back to the North West empty-handed.

The Addicks, of course, hit back from an interval deficit to see off Portsmouth last Saturday evening before gatecrashing the Chelsea party at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday and dumping out the cup holders on penalties.

"It was a great night for us but it didn't take me long to start thinking about Saturday," said Alan. "It takes us nicely into the game on Saturday and hopefully we can follow that up.

"I hope we can take it into Saturday's game and perhaps we'll come up trumps and make it three wins on the spin."

"If we can manage to follow it up then it's no longer a great start. Ten games is not a start as far as I'm concerned, it's a big chunk of the season.

"If we can get something against Bolton and stay in the area we are in, then that's great for us."

That proud standing in the upper echelons of English football's top flight - thoroughly merited on the evidence of the opening months of the new campaign - has proved a bone of contention for the long-serving boss, who believes the club is still not getting the credit it deserves from the media.

"I have been going on a bit about the publicity we've been receiving recently," he said.

"Everyone seems to be going on about how fantastic Spurs are and how brilliant Wigan have done. Then they think 'oh blimey, Charlton's there'.

"For us to change that we've got to stay there for some time. Hopefully we can do that this year but there's still a long way to go."
