Charlton are delighted to confirm the signing of experienced centre-back Jorge Teixeira on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
The 29-year-old joins the Addicks for an undisclosed fee from Standard Liège, where he has been a regular in the first half of the 2015/16 season.
The defender, who graduated from Sporting Clube De Portugal’s esteemed academy system, boasts both Champions League and Europa League experience and has also played in the top domestic leagues in Switzerland, Italy and Israel.
Having spent the early years of his professional career in Portugal, Teixeira joined Maccabi Haifa in 2009 and played 27 matches as they finished top of the Israeli Premier League and participated in the Champions League.
His fine, debut-season performances caught the eye FC Zürich, who paid out to bring him to the Swiss club the following year.
He would spend four seasons with Zürich, making 90 starts and scoring eight goals, and also lifted the Swiss Cup in April 2014.
Teixeira then joined Standard Liège, where he has been a regular for the last two seasons. He has made 16 starts in the Belgian Pro League so far this campaign, keeping clean sheets in three of his last four appearances for the club.
The defender becomes the Addicks' fourth signing of the January transfer window following the arrivals of Roger Johnson and both Diego Poyet and Rhys Williams on loan.
