Charlton are delighted to confirm the signing of experienced Italian defender Marco Motta.

The 29-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season and joins the Addicks on a free transfer.

Motta has enjoyed an impressive career so far, spending the majority of it in Italy’s top flight and also gaining some Championship experience with Watford last season.

After graduating from Atalanta’s academy, the full-back made his senior debut in Serie A in January 2005.

An impressive breakthrough campaign saw him join Udinese that summer and spend four seasons with Bianconeri Friuliani before signing for AS Roma and then Juventus.

During a five-year spell on the books of the Turin club, Motta - who has one cap for Italy's senior side and was a regular in their youth teams - embarked on loan spells with Catania, Bologna and Genoa.

Motta linked up with Watford in February 2015 and played nine matches as they secured their return to the Premier League.

He is not eligible for tomorrow’s Championship fixture against Cardiff City and will link up with his new teammates next week.

Meanwhile, development squad defender Josh Staunton has joined St Albans City on a one-month loan deal. He could go straight into their squad for the their fixture against Concord Rovers on Saturday.
