Charlton’s U21s are in action against Bristol City on Monday night (7pm), as Nathan Jones’ men look to make it three league wins in a row.
The Addicks currently sit on top of Professional Development League 2 – South after brushing aside high-flyers Cardiff City seven days ago.
A double from Michael Smith, along with goals from Callum Harriott and Kevin Feely, helped the development squad to a 4-0 victory over the Bluebirds at Sparrows Lane.
A similar result at Ashton Gate would put the Addicks clear of the chasing pack and one step closer to reaching the knockout stages of the competition.
Looking forward to the clash, senior professional development coach (U18-U21) Nathan Jones told
www.cafc.co.uk that he’s been pleased with his side’s performances in the big games so far this season:
“Bristol City came here and we beat them 3-0. Brentford came here when they were second and we beat them 5-1, so it is pleasing that we are putting on those performances in big games.
“The only time we have come up short is when we have come up against quality first-team players, which is the test they need. I am pleased at the minute.
“The thing with us is that after the Christmas period we were sluggish and a bit slow and it showed in our performance here against Ipswich.
“The games programme killed our momentum but now we have got that back we have to keep that going because there are still seven league games to go.
